Quick Update! I just received my copy of Car Craft, March 2003. I haven't even had time to read the article yet, but I am ecstatic because I made the cover!!! Here is the pic!!!
I'll post more about this later... For those of you visiting my webpage for the first time, you will find the history of this project, mostly in diary form. I haven't been as diligent about updating this site since I finally got the car on the road. :) Guess I've been having a bit too much fun with it, and there have been other things going on as well. But you can catch up by reading the diary entries below! There are a lot of questions that I receive about the car that I will try to answer here for you. But please feel free to email me if you have any more, and I'll be glad to try and answer them! First, a little history. I spent 12 years planning this car before I was finally in the position to buy it. My motivation came from a Car Craft magazine 1-page feature back in May of 1988! I still have this picture that I carry with me today! Take a look at it here. I purchased the car from my father, who had bought it as a driver and completely disassembled it. He performed the body work on the basic shell, and had begun his plan for it (which involved a lot of cutting and modifying!). Unfortunately for him, after he did some of the major work, he lost interest in the project, and the car sat for about 5 years. That's when I came along. :) Since purchasing the car, I've done a LOT of work getting it back together. If you follow the links, you will see that I had to purchase another whole body to patch this one, but the effort was well worth it! There are so many subtle aspects to this car that one wouldn't notice from just the pictures... But that's what makes the car different!!! :) Part of the dream that I had when building this car was to compete in the Car Craft Real Street Eliminator competition that was ongoing during the 90's. Unfortunately, Car Craft stopped it for several years, for whatever reason. However, this year they brought it back, and I was lucky enough to be chosen to compete!!! I did well, and the car did even better, and I ended up with a 2nd place finish. If I had had a little more time with the car on a track before the competition, I would have given that winner a little better run for his money! But overall, I accomplished my goals with this car, and I'm now ready to move on to the next project... Here is a little teaser for the upcoming Car Craft issue:
I will be more than happy to discuss details of this car with anyone who is interested. FYI, the Real Street Eliminator article should be out now in the March 2003 issue of Car Craft. Now for the good stuff! Click on the links below to review the build history of this car. Obviously, I haven't covered every little detail here, but I don't think you will find a better documented web buildup anywhere! If you do, please let me know so I can read it! It's always good to find new ideas... :)
