October 9, 2002: AC almost there

  • Well, not quite, but close... :) I had the AC hoses made up this week, and they are now installed on the car. It took a bit of creativity, but they are hidden reasonably well all things considered, and now I just need to get the system charged and I'm ready to go!
  • One of the reasons I've waited so long to do this was I feared how it would turn out. I didn't want the lines and the drier to clutter the engine compartment. It took some luck, and a good last minute idea on how to hide things to make it all work out, but for now, I'm really happy! I located the drier in the cavity of the passenger's side fender, and that allowed all the lines to stay hidden. The large suction return line was the biggest challenge, but it's tucked nicely along the bottom of the radiator, so it's out of the way as well. :) While I was at the Charlotte Autofair in September, I found a good set of AC hardlines to use on my compressor which pointed the fittings in just the right direction. So, overall, it's turned out well!!!
  • I'll get some pics of the system soon, and when I get it charged (this weekend) I'll let everyone know how the Gen II Compact system is performing in my car. Let's hope for the best! :)
