October 6, 2002: My First Autocross!

  • Check it out! :) I participated in my first autocross today! I stink, which is obviously why I need to go do more! :) I went with the Tarheel Sports Car Club and had a blast! This particular event was held at an old airport runway, so at least I was able to get up some speed during the runs. :) But, after finishing 12th out of 14 in my class, and 97th out of 101 overall, I think I have a lot to learn... (for what it's worth, my last run was 2.5 seconds quicker, but I received a DNF, I presume for hitting cones... :).
  • On the whole, the day was great! I managed to push myself harder each run and thus improve my times each run as well. I started the day with a 76.xxx second run, and ended up with a 69.xxx second run. I think the fastest run of the day was a 59.xxx second run. That car was on sticky tires and driven in the 'Pro' class, whatever that means. :) My raw times weren't that bad overall, but the index killed me, and that's why I finished so low. Apparantly my car is in a class that's considered strongly modified, imagine that. :) Hee hee...
  • This same group is putting on another event at the same track in November, so I may attend that one as well. It was a lot of fun out there, other than the bug fest! Oof... I still prefer road courses, as the 70 seconds is over before you know it. But it's a good way for me to get to know the car better, so I'll do more events as I can...
