- Today was fun wiring day! One of the things I discovered last weekend while
trying to get the motor running was some wiring gremlins. The taillights/blinkers/
brake lights just weren't working correctly. NO idea why either, but it acted like
a bad ground somewhere...
So today I decided to tear into the wiring. After much searching, I found 2
things wrong. First, I wasn't getting good connections on the turn signal connector
that attaches to the steering column. Thus, the left side blinker worked, but the
right side didn't. Ugh. Second, I hadn't grounded the outside cover of the headlight
switch. This must be done for the done light to be grounded. Ugh!
I now think that the lighting/wiring gremlins are gone, but we'll see. I still
don't have the hazard flasher working, but I'll get there.
- Tunes! After fixing the other wiring problems, I decided to install the new stereo
head unit today. I chose the Pioneer Premiere DEH-P630 head unit to drive the 6x9
Infinity's. The install was quick and reasonably painless! :) About 30 minutes and I
had sound emanating from the Infinity's! Only problem is the Painless wiring harness
(what a misnomer!!!!) doesn't provide an ACC position power supply for the radio, so
the unit currently only works in the ON position of the ignition switch. I think I
can fix that.
- Today I also rewired the engine compartment and located the MSD box. I fired the motor
briefly to ensure that the wiring was good, which is was. Tomorrow I'm going to play
with the static tuning some more. It's tough to run the new motor with no one else around
to watch over things! Too many things to keep up with at once! (gauges, computer, adjusting
the timing, timing light, etc etc etc...). But it sounds good! :)
